Gas/Battery Refresh Mode?

Has anyone run into this yet? My wife is driving the van and for last 3-4 trips she gets a message that a gas/battery refresh is underway and both modes are operational and so it runs on gas to some degree. Usually get back and forth to sons house on battery. yesterday 35% left today 65%left. I have no idea what is going on and it is a multi trip thing not just happening on one trip. Jim
